THIS(HOLYGIFT)
In-Development Workshop w/ Exponential Festival, Jan. 2019
As three post-humans enact a ritual for you, the lights start to come on.
The work starts to make sense.
(There is hope.)
And as you slowly unplug and return to the spirit, you start to feel good. The only problem is...does anyone remember the way back?
Inspired by Tool's cult album, "Lateralus," This(HolyGift) explores cyborgism, spirituality, and the space where they meet.
This(HolyGift) received a workshop presentation at Triskelion Arts in January 2019, presented by the Exponential Festival. Creators included Jeanne Torres, Ianne Fields Stewart, Kierna Conner, Victoria Bain, Laura McCullagh, and Jazmin Patino. Conceived by Javan Nelson.
Scum
World Premiere Production at The Producer’s Club, NYC
Four friends dive into a bunker just in time - nuclear fallout has begun. At first it’s a vacation, a few days eating Doritos and playing D&D. But when the days start stretching into weeks, their games cease and they start playing by their own unwritten rules of survival.
Sarah Shear’s Scum received its world premiere at the Producer’s Club for three weeks in 2018. Performed by Aaron Mauck, Adrian Amador, Jay Cobian, and Sarah Shear. Directed by Javan Nelson.
Carry On
Presentation at Aerial Horizons in San Antonio, July 2017
The world ends today. Who will you be?
Loosely based on Alan Lightman’s “Einstein’s Dreams,” this devised theatre piece gives us a glimpse of an abstract little town that comes together on the last day before the end of the world.
Carry On performed two sold-out performances at Aerial Horizons in San Antonio in July, 2017.
Devised and performed by the San Antonio Collective (John-Michael Marrs, Tyler Keyes, and Javan Nelson) with guest artist Nick Lawson.
New Moon High Noon
New Moon High Noon was commissioned by poet Nic Adams for a showing at Dixon Place. His poetry is the narrated text. Video conceived and directed by Javan Nelson.
